A user-generated channel launched by Al Gore in the United States a year ago has gone live in the UK today.
Current TV allows viewers to vote for programming content with viewer-created advertising; the UK channel will run on the same model, encouraging viewers to submit their own content.
Current TV President of Programming David Neuman said: "Current is about creating a global dialogue among young adults. This contest is intended to spark that dialogue among young and aspiring filmmakers in the UK, allowing us to capture stories in the voice of our viewers.
"Over 30% of our programming is viewer-created content.. It’s all non-fiction and covers everything from trends in music, technology and fashion, to serious global issues. Everything we air is short-form — typically 3-5 minutes long."
Current TV is available on EPG 229 on Sky.
