In an attempt to create further awareness of the analogue switchoff in 2012, BBC2 will be the first terrestrial channel to face the switchoff.

Once the channel has gone blank, a message will appear telling viewers that digital TV equipment is required to watch the channel. The full analogue switchoff will come a few weeks later.

The measures are designed to smooth the transition to digital, which some 10% of households are expected to still be resisting by the time their region is switched off.
