After sixteen years of broadcasting, Sky News has had its much awaited makeover.
The change consists of a new package of graphics, a new set and many new faces who will front the channel's new schedule. Sky News was the first 24-hour British news channel to launch and hit the airwaves in February 1989 as "the dawn of a new television age".
The station is moving out of the studio that has been its home for sixteen years and into a state-of-the-art news room.
Nick Pollard, head of news, said: "We were the first in the business in the UK and we think we've maintained the reputation as the best in the business for breaking news and for hard, rolling journalism. We are taking the next step up to what we believe is a higher level. We are moving into a brand new production centre which will give us all sorts of extra facilities. We're producing a whole new programme schedule - the emphasis will still be on breaking news - and we are introducing a lot of new presenters as well."
Sky News' programming Monday to Friday now features dedicated shows, each designed to cater for different audience demands throughout the day. Each programme is constructed to be broken into at any stage to deliver major news - ensuring that Sky News remains first for breaking news.
Sky Digi Online has been tracking the Sky News revamp ever since it was announced the channel was to receive an overhaul.
As well as the channel itself, Sky News' interactive service "Active" too has been revamped to coincide with the new onscreen look of Sky News. The change has also spread online with Sky News' official website being jazzed up.
In its sixteen year history, Sky News has also begun broadcasting in widescreen.
Sky News is available on EPG 501.
