Big FM still has plans to launch in the UK

Reliance Media World's India based Bollywood radio station, Big FM still has plans to launch in the UK.

According to sources, the popular station has axed plans to launch in Singapore due to the downturn in the economic climate. IndianTelevision reports that Big FM had set foot in Singapore in 2008 to produce and broadcast Bollywood content for three hours through MediaCorp's International Channel FM 96.3.

Big 92.7 FM CTO and business head (East and South) Soumen Ghosh Choudhury told the Indian portal that it still has plans to launch in the UK, US and Middle East depending how the economy changes.

"We have been evaluating several options and will enter when we see the appropriate business opportunity. We want to reach out, not just to the fast growing Indian expat community, but to all Asians who love Bollywood and seek Bollywood entertainment across the globe."

It was speculated a few years ago that Big FM had plans to launch its service on Spectrum Radio where stations like ARY Digital Radio, Sabras Radio and more recently ZEE Radio were a part of. Even though the station had shown interest in bidding for the Club Asia licence in London, it found it commercially unviable. Since then Big FM has been looking at possibilities of launching on DAB digital radio in the UK.
