Sony TV grabs rights to 'Slumdog Millionaire'

Multi Screen Media (MSM), parent company of Sony TV Network has bought the telecast rights for the blockbuster 'Slumdog Millionaire' through a recently concluded license deal with Fox Star Studios (FSS).

The movie, which has been nominated for ten Oscars will be screened on its Bollywood channel MAX and its Hollywood channel Pix in India, six months after its theatrical release.

Kunal Dasgupta, chief executive officer, MSM India, says, "Slumdog Millionaire is a great story, and Pix is a great story teller. We have just made sure that the movie found its proper home in India. Having this film as part of our library is only natural for us."

N. P. Singh, chief operating officer, MSM India, says, "Slumdog Millionaire is a fantastic film which has the entire world's attention focused upon it right now. While our acquisition is a big step in the further development of Pix, the film will also be aired in Hindi on Max."

With the addition of this movie, an elated Sunder Aaron, business head, Pix, said, "The movie has taken the world by storm. We aim to make Pix the No. 1 English movies channel in India, so our viewers can expect many such big movies this year."

Sneha Rajani, business head, MAX, said, "As a network, we have always stood for high quality, big-ticket entertainment. I am delighted that MAX will premiere the Hindi version and our viewers across the country can enjoy what is truly a phenomenal film."
