Sky EPG resuffle to affect Asian channels

EPG reshuffle confirmed for Sky's Asian channelsBSkyB has confirmed that a Sky Digital EPG reshuffle will take place later this year which could result in some Asian channels moving.

In a statement released by the corporation it confirmed: "the proposed changes will accommodate further listings in those genres which have experienced rapid growth and which may require room for future expansion.

In managing the EPG in a way which best balances the interests of customers, channel partners and the platform itself, the proposed changes will seek to better utilise platform capacity by closing numbering gaps within genres. This will help improve the structure and presentation of channels while ensuring that all genres have the flexibility to meet future channel demand."

The last major reshuffle took place last August which resulted in new EPG numbers for some broadcasters.

Nicola Bamford, Director of Channels and Operations, BSkyB: "Since the last major reshuffle the TV landscape has changed considerably, and in a way which has altered the nature and composition of the EPG. In making these changes we believe we can improve navigability for customers, make more efficient use of available channel numbers and ensure that growing genres have the flexibility they need for future expansion."

Consultation with broadcasters is already underway. Final details of the changes will be confirmed within the next few weeks, with numbers being reallocated in phases in 2008.

The statement added that a marketing campaign will be implemented prior to the changes to inform viewers of the changes, through a number of different media.

There are no changes planned for following EPG categories Documentaries, Sports, Adult and Radio.

Sky currently anticipates genres/sub-genres to start at the following numbers:
