STAR planning to launch Indian shopping channel

STAR India and Bennett, Coleman & Company (BCCL) are planning to launch an Indian tele-shopping network in collaboration with a Korean company.

According to reports, the Korean company will hold a minority stake, while STAR and BCCL will be equal partners. Both STAR and BCCL are keeping tightlipped about developments.

Sources close to BizAsia.co.uk have suggested that Korea's popular TVHS channel CJ is advising STAR India and BCCL about entering the market. However this has not been confirmed. The parties involved are currently investigating costs and revenues.

Speculation is also rife that NDTV is also looking into home tele-shopping. TV18's shopping channel is looking at launching February-end, early March.

There are no plans to launch such channels in the UK market.
