Sanjhi Awaz Radio to launch on Sky in April

Ofcom awards new licence to Sanjhi Awaz RadioA new radio station by the name of Sanjhi Awaz Radio is looking at launching in April next year, it’s been confirmed.

The digital radio station, which will broadcast from Birmingham, will initially broadcast across UK and Europe via Sky Digital and then followed with a launch on DAB and online.

Kewal Singh, Operations Director of Sanjhi Awaz Radio said: "The station will use music to create cohesive communities."

Sanjhi Awaz Radio's programmes will mainly consist of Bhangra, Bollywood and English music shows. The station will primarily broadcast in Punjabi and Hindi with elements in English.

Jasmine Patara, Creative Director of Sanjhi Awaz Radio said:
"We need a radio station broadcasting from Birmingham the heart of Bhangra music scene for the UK and across the western world."

Ofcom has awarded Sanjhi Awaz Radio a Radio Licensable Content Service licence, which permits it to launch on digital satellite. It plans to go live by the first week of April 2008.
