Indian company buys Belgium’s satellite business

ORG Informatics Limited, a satellite telecoms and technology implementation & integration company from India, has bought the satellite broadcast and services business including the TV & Telecoms Teleport assets of Belgacom, Belgium’s national TelCo.

Belgacom is one of Europe's premiere national telecoms companies with over Euro 6 billion in annual revenues.

ORG will now be in a position to address various satellite based solutions including broadcasting across Europe, Middle East and Africa, voice over IP (VoIP), satellite monitoring, etc. ORG intends on providing a low cost access to the South Asian Content Providers across Europe, addressing over 1.5 Million DTH households from the region. This should open up new revenue opportunities for all Indian and other South Asian broadcasters.

William Mosseray, Chief Strategy Officer of Belgacom Group says: "we found that ORG were the right entrepreneurial organisation to buy our assets and they also gave us confidence to continue to serve our own ongoing satellite requirements."

Ajoy Khandheria, Group CEO of ORG, says "in the Belgacom satellite business we saw considerable opportunities to grow the business based on the excellent assets and blue-chip clients that Belgacom and its staff had cultivated with pride over time. And in Belgacom we saw an complimentary ally to work with. Belgacom’s satellite business will also provide a footprint in Europe for ORG’s IT and Telecom products and Services."

The acquisition could mean more Asian TV channels launching in Europe.
