Confirmed: Tony Lit resigns as Sunrise's MD

Tony Lit resigns as Sunrise Radio MDIt has officially been confirmed that Sunrise Radio's Managing Director Tony Lit has stepped down from his role for a part in the Conservative party.

The news was reported first here on BizAsia.co.uk over the weekend. Last Thursday (28th June), Tony Lit was selected as Conservative's candidate to fight the Ealing Southall by-election.

Lit has long been a Conservative follower but could not join the party due to his involvement at Sunrise Radio, which would have lead to a conflict of interest.

Campaigning in Ealing Southall Labour MP Parmjit Dhanda called on Tony Lit the newly appointed Tory candidate for Ealing Southall to stand down from his Directorship of Sunrise Radio with immediate effect.

Parmjit Dhanda said: "I am calling on you to resign from your post as Managing Director of Sunrise Radio.

"There is an obvious conflict of interest between your role as the Conservative Party candidate in the Ealing Southall by-election and your responsibility to ensure that Sunrise Radio provides balanced coverage of political views in the light of relevant legislation and codes."

In 2001 Tony Lit's father, Avtar Lit, owner of Sunrise Radio stood as an Independent candidate in the general election in Ealing Southall. Sunrise Radio was fined £10,000 by the Radio Authority for breaching the Broadcasting Act 1990 with an interview with Dr Lit in advance of his proposed candidacy.

Mr Lit, the son of Avtar Lit, named as one of the 20 Most Powerful Asians "I have already resigned" said the confident Tony Lit "This happened before the announcement of my candidacy for the Conservative Party."

"I feel I can bring something of value and structure to Southall and Ealing, my background as a Sikh and an employee of Sunrise radio will stand me in good stead."

"I am looking forward to working with all the communities, I will be looking at issues that effect this vibrant community, I will deal with the issue of crime that has increased during the Labour years, I will look at the devastating issue of drugs, I will ensure that we study the transport issues, we may need to introduce a system that will alleviate the congestion issues."

"You have had Labour past 35 years – I am a young dynamic Sikh from the constituency, I will take your local issue to Westminster, I know this has not happened before, but if I have your vote I will ensure your voice is heard. I have a website www.Tonylit.net take a look – lets make the difference together."
