Yash Raj Films to launch TV channel

One of Bollywood's leading film producers/distributor - Yash Raj Films - is planning to launch its independent TV channel by 2008, according to reports.

Yash Raj Films is spearheaded by legendry film maker Yash Chopra. The production house has churned out some of the biggest hits in the history of Indian cinema including 'Silsila', 'Kabhi Kabhi', 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Dhoom 2' and 'Fanaa'.

Yash Raj Films was established as a film-making company in 1970 and in the last three decades it has grown from strength to strength. In 2005, Yash Raj Films also launched its own record label called Yash Raj Music.

With so many successes under its belt already, Yash Raj Films is now looking to spread its wings to TV. A ‘television team’ is already in place and involved in the planning R&D stages of the new channel.

"We have a research team headed by Ravina Kohli (former STAR News boss), which is ideating and exploring various possibilities in the field of television. This process will assist us in planning our strategy in this field," said CEO at Yash Raj, Sanjeev Kohli.

It is a well known fact that Yash Raj Films has worked quite closely with Sony Entertainment Television Asia, with the broadcaster holding exclusive rights of Yash Raj's movie library.

Yash Raj Films TV channel is looking at a 2008-end launch.

Well known film producer/director and TV host Karan Johar has also linked himself with NDTV's upcoming channel by acquiring a stake in it. The project known as NDTV Imagine launches later this year.
