Rumour: Presenters on the way out on Sunrise?

The UK's most listened to Asian station Sunrise Radio could be losing some of its key properties over the next few days due to an internal spat, according to rumours.

As revealed first on BizAsia.co.uk a few weeks ago, weekend presenter Vik Kumar left due to a disagreement with management. The station also lost its news editor David Landau for BBC Three Counties in Luton.

Now, rumours are rife that Sunny Kapoor of Kismat Radio will be leaving the station for an indefinite period effective from this Friday (18th August) to concentrate on other projects. Sunny Kapoor has been fronting the Kismat Radio 'Breakfast Show' since the beginning of the year. He was also put in charge of programming at the station at around the same time. Since his control at Kismat, the station has seen a rise of nearly 40,000 listeners. Sunny is also known for his numerous in-house promos and commercials aired on Sunrise and other Asian radio stations. A replacement is yet to be announced.

There are also rumours that a popular female weekday daytime presenter from Sunrise Radio could be quitting by the end of this month. Confirmation on this presenter leaving is awaited.

Furthermore rumours also suggest newsreader Toby Shergold leaving the Sunrise Radio news team at the end of September.

With so many changes at the Avtar Lit radio corporation what could have brought so many possible departures at the group? It could be down to Sunrise Radio looking at revamping its programming in a big way. As once again revealed first on BizAsia.co.uk last month, Sunrise is looking at shifting its senior presenters such as Ravi Sharma, Sarita Sabharwal, Anisa Nasir and others to sister station Kismat Radio.

Sunrise Radio has been in talks with media regulator Ofcom about the new stance it wants to take in programming. Sunrise Radio is already looking for new 'younger' presenters to spruce up the Sunrise schedule. In the last RAJAR results, Sunrise Radio lost 5,000 listeners but retained the number one position amongst Asian radio stations in the UK - but only by a margin.
